2017final

A field of Nine Three-Year Old Colts will enter the New York starting gate in the $100,000 ESR Bozeman Reaction Stakes.  The race will be run at Ten-Furlongs over the Turf Course.

1 – PAY THE STARS – the kingab trained 3-Year Old Bay Colt by Galileo out of the G1 winning, multi stakes producing mare GOLD FOR THE GRAVE(Dynaformer) has noticeably improved in his 3yo season recording two wins and a second and a 3rd place finish in the Twice Told Tale Turf Route Stakes in four 2017 starts; just missed last out in an Allowance NW3L where he recorded a career best 106-speed figure and should be sitting chilly for the stretch drive…in top form

2 – YOUR JOY – the scratch-bred 3-Year Old Light Grey Colt by Kitten’s Joy out of a Royal Academy x Miswaki mare is hoping to record her first stakes victory for the trotter1 racing stables; connections giving it that ‘old college try’, but think this KY Bred is better suited for 8.5 Furlongs…win one for the gipper

3 – THE KESSEL RUN – the 3 Year Old Bay Colt by Teofilo out of the G2 winning TWELVE PARSECS(Dynaformer) was a sharp $40k claim by the aladar racing stables who in his second start for his new connections romped home in a MSW victory going 10-furlongs for the first time; don’t get put off by that 93-speed figure in win where the IRE Bred was under wraps and should have a lot more left in the tank; may take a hit in the Class department, but he is one of three in this field to have won at this distance…might surprise

4 – CASINO FOREVER – the casino stables will roll the dice in this 3-Year Old Bay Colt by Orfevre out of a Galileo mare when he takes on 10-furlongs for the first time in his career; entrenched in Local Races in his first 5 starts, the JPN Bred successfully stepped out of his comfort zone with two wins and two seconds in 4 starts at 9.5-furlongs, the last boasting a 109-speed figure suggesting the 3yo will have little trouble with the added ½ furlong; could get loose here in a field void of speed…one to catch

5 – GAINING GOLD the jrm trained 3-Year Old Bay Colt by Major Gain out of the multi-stakes producing mare GOLDEN BOUGH(Fort Wood), Dam of the G3 winning WINTERINTHEWOODS, has done his best racing while sprinting; despite a second-place finish in his only start going around two turns, the NY Bred would have to run the race of his life to win here…not with these

6- SAM ADAMS – it will be interesting to see what the nextbonus trained 3-Year Old Bay Colt by Americain out of the Stakes Placed GOODATDRINKINGBEER(Pulpit) has on tap for us in his first start going around 10-furlongs; winner of three of four turf starts, the only hiccup coming over a yielding turf in the G3 Virginia Turf Cup, the KY Bred has been dominant since switching over to the Turf; expect her to be closer to the lead in a race that appears void of any real speed…dangerous

7 – SOVRANO – the frankster trained 3-Year-Old Bay Colt by New Approach out of that Stakes winning KINGS PLAZA(King Kamehameha) enters the filed off a pair of 10-furlong Turf victories with 101 and 106 speed figures accordingly; undoubtedly in his comfort zone, the ENG easily handled the competition in his last two starts and appears well-poised here on Saturday…one to beat

8 – SPOOKIE CAT – have to like the last start of this 3-Year Old Light Grey son of Rookie Sensation out of a Dansili mare was a $25k claim for the valesa racing stables with the intention of competing in the ESR King of the Starters Contest, after a failed effort in that contest, his connections returned him to the turf where he finished a strong second in a Starter Allowance where he recorded a career best 104-speed figure; mat still have some Class issues here but is headed in the right direction and could grab a piece of the purse if capable of the 10-furlongs…happy with part

9- PLATFORM CADET- making only his third career start, the cadet trained scratch bred 3-Year Old Bay Colt by Dubawai, out of a Kingmambo x NijinskyII mare, is the talk of the backstretch on the New York Racing Circuit and faces his toughest test here on Saturday; you have to take a long hard look at a horse that breaks its’ Maiden at 10-furlongs in only its’ second career start, and the ENG Bred did it in such convincing fashion suggesting there are better things to come…might be this good

Handicapping the Race

Solid field of three-year old’s going 10-furlongs on the Turf with 3 horses recording wins at this distance. CASINO FOREVER has impressed at 9.5-furlongs and should have little trouble with the added distance.  He looks like the lone speed in this field and should have things pretty much his own way in the early going.  He is not the best horse in this field, but he is the fastest from the gate and will have to be caught.  PAY THE STARS, SAM ADAMS, and PLATFORM CADET should keep the leader well within striking distance but would be ill-advised to let him gain a clear lead.  Based on his 10-furlong races, SOVRANO is the best horse in this field, but will need some help if he is to kick in with his big closing run.

The Picks

SOVRANO – proven at the distance and versatile enough to stay close

CASINO FOREVER – must be pressed or might not get caught

SAM ADAMS – too good to leave off your ticket
