FRANCUA CHRONICLES 6-14-18 THROUGH 6-20-2018

Well, I wouldn’t exactly call this group of runners my “A” squad… hell calling them my “B” squad would be a huge stretch. I also didn’t have very many going this week so I spent a good amount of time trying to claim and buy horses in the auction where I did see some success. There was also a few new additions to the barn in the form of a gifted horse from sjmeola9 (Thank you!), an experimental bred, and I used up my HONOR CODE share to breed a filly by the name of IMPOSSIBLY DASHING.

Overall, the record was pretty crappy though. 21-1-2-4

Last Week’s Watch List:

CALLOUS ALICE – Claimed for 17.5K and after three races she hasn’t turned out to be one of my better claims to this point.  Her career with me started with some turf attempts that saw her not do much running. In her most recent, I cut the class, moved her back to dirt where she got a sloppy track where she seemed to run a decent 3rd place getting beaten by a length.

GRAYCENTRATED – When I claimed her for 12.5K I thought a stretch out with allowance company was going to solve her late running problems. Unfortunately for me I guessed wrong and extra distance doesn’t seem to fix the double-digit length losses. After 19 races she’ll be moved back into the claiming ranks for one more attempt to show me if she’s got anything left in the tank.

FROST DANCE –  I gave her what I thought would be her easiest task since joining the barn back in March with a 7.5F 20K NW5L on the turf, but she missed by almost 6 lengths. This most recent loss makes for her 24th career race and she seems to be trending in the wrong direction. For that reason I’m going to end her career here with a total record of 24-4-5-4 and earnings of $125,491.

EMOJI BOMB (MEDICEAN x NUREYEV x NO DOUBLE) – A 3 year old I bred back in May got her 2nd run for me as this time I cut the distance back from 8.25 furlongs to 6.5 furlongs on the turf. He seemed to enjoy the shorter distance a bit more finishing 3rd by 5 lengths with Maiden 39K’s.

STRATE CASH HOMIE (EFFINEX x STORM BIRD x VALID APPEAL) – Another 3 year old I bred back in May who has been a nice little runner thus far. In both of her races she’s closed from way off the pace to finished 2nd. Next out she’ll get another stretch out and we are going to hope that it puts her over the top.

ROUNDTABLE RICHES (VERRAZANO x MINESHAFT x MONTJEU) – She didn’t break particularly well or at all for that matter and dove to the rail to save ground. She did improve her position in the stretch but that was merely her passing tired rivals. After going 7 furlongs on the dirt I think I’m going to give her the old switcharoo to turf and add some distance for her.

Studs:

I AM MARMALADE (I AM INVINCIBLE x ALL TOO HARD (AUS) x COMMANDS (AUS)) – Started her career off with a nice stalk and close victory in a 5.5 Furlong 16K turf affair. Not really sure if I want to stretch her out in her next but we will have to wait and see what’s available.

HITT THE LIGHTS (MICROMANAGE x INDIAN CHARLIE x MEDAGLIA D’ORO) – One my first attempts at breeding and it shows. Lucky for me he’s getting a little better each start and in his most recent ran 3rd with maiden 22K’s going 7 furlongs. I’m thinking about giving him a go on the turf in his next out just to see how he enjoys the trip.

Duds:

GENUINE OUTLAW (CURLIN x HARLAN’S HOLIDAY x UNBRIDELD’S SONG) – I had super high hopes for this gal in her debut and she got beaten pretty soundly finishing 4th by 3 lengths with Maiden 45K’s on the dirt at 7 furlongs. There is some silver lining as she did earn me BPs but I thought for sure she’d get ITM with the group she ran against.

GRUNGE ROCKER (ROCK HARD TEN x SEATTLE SLEW x MR. LEADER) – He didn’t care for the turf and looking back on the breeding I am Monday morning QB’ing myself saying “I should’ve put him on dirt”. A cut in class will also come as he lost ground at a pretty good clip against foes of this caliber.

MIZZ (MIZZEN MAST x DUBAI MILLENIUM x DISTORTED HUMOR) – He might still be in the starting gate. He ran a 49 speed fig going 7 furlongs on the turf against 56K’s so the switch to dirt is inevitable along with the obvious class cut.

FIVE FOR FIVER (NATHANIEL x ZAFONIC x TOM ROLFE) – I can’t seem to figure this girl out. She was one of the very first horses gifted to me when I started back in February and I haven’t been close with her. She’s only ever run routes with me so maybe its time to try some sprinting and a significant class cut.

BROADANDBRUSH – I couldn’t have given this guy an easier spot then the NW2L 20K claimer with local company that saw him only run against 3 others. He was a heavy favorite at 1-5 and he managed to only run 2nd which to me is worthy of dud status. I’m a little discouraged with him, so I’m thinking of potentially sending him back to auction.

IMPOSSIBLY DASHING (HONOR CODE x DANEHILL DANCER x DYNAFORMER) – I thought for sure with the heavy turf influence on the backend of the pedigree that she’d enjoy the trip. I was wrong. She ran the first two calls and then punched out for the day. She’ll get a go on the dirt in her next attempt.

SEGWAY (EXCEED AND EXCEL x MONTJEU x LEMON DROP KID) – Ugly debut for one I was hoping for big things from. She’d run 11th out of 13 going 7 furlongs on the turf with maiden 56K’s and was really never close. The 59 speed fig also isn’t encouraging so I may give her a whirl on the dirt with a class drop.

Successful Claims:

GRAY HUMOR (GRAYDAR x DISTORTED HUMOR x HALO) – Scooped up for 5K and 10 BP’s and will try to stretch him out a bit.

TWO STONES SALOON (NYQUIST x TAPIT x HARLAN’S HOLIDAY) -  Claimed for 30K and 60 BPs, I loved the breeding on this girl and will probably send her out in Starter Allowance company in a turf route for her first with me.

WAR LADY D (HENRYTHENAVIGATOR x RAHY x WAR CHANT) – Claimed for 15K and 30 BPs and immediately sent to the breeding grounds where I used a cheap BRODY’S CAUSE share. Not really expecting big things but we will see what her first daughter BRODYTHENAVIGATOR can do.

AUNTIE’S CAUSE (BRODY’S CAUSE x UNCLE MO x T.M. OPERA O (JPN) – She won a 100K MC back in August of 2017 sprinting on the turf and has yet to face easier under those same conditions. The plan is to wheel her back with cheap claimers and hope we get some BPs out of her.

HELMET HAIR (HELMET (AUS) x POINT GIVEN x GONE WEST) – I really like the breeding and she’s a game little horse that has won 3 out of 4 in dirt sprints. Will keep her around the same level and see if we can continue the trend.

MISS BLACK LUTE (MACLEAN’S MUSIC x MIDNIGHT LUTE x PULPIT) – Claimed for 15K and 30 BPs she looked like a cheap way to make some extra cash and BPs with low level claimers. Will probably give her a shot at routing as well since she’s never tried it.

BEAUTY AND DA FLEA (LANGFUHR x SMART STRIKE x DYNAFORMER) – Picked up for 7.5K and 15 BPs will run back to 5 or 5.5 furlongs with better to see if she can handle the going.

Horses Lost to Claim:

MR. PACQUIOU (MR. Z x RAHY x ICECAPADE) – Just bred, and I wasn’t too high on the breeding so I started her off in a Maiden 30K claiming event. She didn’t run very well finishing dead last and only posting a speed fig of 50. Best of luck to Kentuckiana30 on the new addition.

Next Week’s Watchlist:

Debuting 2-year olds

DANCING KAT (KITTEN’S JOY x DANEHILL DANCER x MACHIAVELLIAN) – Going 7 furlongs on the turf with maiden 56K’s.

WATCH LIST:

WILD SAMURAI (WILDCAT RED x DEHERE x FIRST SAMURAI) – After winning at the maiden 16K level going 5.5 furlongs this gal comes back to run with allowance company.

PROTON POWER (MACLEAN’S MUSIC x TIZNOW x TAPIT) – After winning at the maiden 16K level going 6 furlongs she comes back to run with allowance company.

JUST FOR KAT (NOONMARK x STREET CRY x SADLER’S WELLS) – Recently broke her maiden with maiden 33K’s going 5 furlongs she’ll stretch her legs as she hits allowance company going 6 furlongs.

NEW MEXICAN MORN – Fresh off his 3rd place finish in a local championship, he comes back to go 9 furlongs with allowance foes.
