Thank you to everyone who participated in the little gender reveal contest this weekend. Without a doubt, it was a great weekend filled with lots of family, fun, and egg. But down to brass tacks. We made it down to the wire cracking one hard boiled egg after the other  on each other’s foreheads until there was only one left of each. I gave my wife the privilege of picking her fate and naturally she chose the pink egg leaving me with the only remaining blue egg. We decided on this last egg instead of going 1 and 1 we would do it at the same time on three. As soon as we hit the number three there was finally a crack of an egg as my blue egg ended up breaking over my wife followed by a big eruption from the family of “It’s a boy!”

As far as the contest goes the results of the egg were: Blue – 6 – F. The babies name will be Francis the 5th after me, my dad, grandfather, and great grandfather. I had to keep the tradition alive :) . Nobody got all three which is fine as I’m still going to go ahead and give a horse to the person who was closest. So your winner of the gender reveal contest is:

KYOGLE!!

Kyogle was the closest with the pick of Blue-6-S.  Kyogle won a horse who goes by the name of MIDNIGHT CRIES (IRISH WAR CRY x MIDNIGHT LUTE x FLATTER) Congrats and thanks again too all of you who played.

I also figured I’d use the opportunity to do a write up on some of the week’s runners. Only a few winners but a couple of good ones none the less in my opinion.

Winners:

KAT D’ORO (MEDAGLIA D’ORO x STORM CAT x GONE WEST) – She was given a try on turf for the first time in her young career and this 3 year old filly did not disappoint. She cruised to victory in a 6 furlong sprint winning by a length and a half.

ROBIX (HARD SPUN x ELUSIVE QUALITY x FOREST WILDCAT) – If she can get out in front she’s a tough horse to catch and this week she did just that. She ran in a 6 furlong 29K allowance NW2X this week and wired the field, holding off the late chargers and winning by a neck. She tried stakes once already as a 2 year old going 6.5 furlongs, but I’m not quite sure she’s ready to go back to that level just yet.

CONFORMED (CONSTITUTION x DYNAFORMER x HAWAII(SAF)) – After 5 unsuccessful trips on the turf this trainer finally smartened up and moved this son of CONSTITUTION back to the dirt. He ran much better then I thought he would against 50K maiden claimers closing from 7th place and winning by a length.

TOUGH MUDDER (ALPHA x FLOWER ALLEY x TIZNOW) – Figures put mud in the name and you get a turf runner. He ran against 5 other NY breds in an allowance NW3L on the turf going 4.5 furlongs. He stalked the pace before taking off and running away with the victory by a length.

NOBLE TYCOON (ENGLISH CHANNEL x KING KAMEHAMEHA x WRITTEN TYCOON) – Through his first 5 tries on the turf he hadn’t really shown much, but I finally gave him some more distance to run at and he came through for me. He ran 9.5 furlongs against maiden 10K claimers and got up in the final jumps to get the victory.

GRAB ME ONE (I’LL HAVE ANOTHER x STORM CAT x HILAL(IRE)) – I swear I don’t do this on purpose with him but his last three races have only been fields of 4. Granted he keeps on winning so I can’t complain, but I’d like to really test him in bigger fields to see how he does. He ended up stalking the pace and running away with a victory in an allowance NW3x to earn his 4th victory in 7 tries.

WAKANDA SOHO (SEBRING x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x A.P. INDY) -Gave her a minor stretch to 8.25 furlongs and she crushed it earning a 93 speed fig in a stalking effort to break her maiden. Her top fig prior to this week’s big run was just an 82 so needless to say I’m encouraged by what I saw. I’m going to stretch her out a bit further in her next to see how she enjoys the added distance.

Back to the Drawing Board:

STREET ASSOCIATE (VERRAZANO x STREET CRY x MACHIAVELLIAN) – I was pretty sure that moving him back to turf in a sprint would get him to perform better. Like in most cases I was wrong. After this week’s 7th place finish going 7.5 furlongs on the dirt I’m convinced he wants to route.

MEAN MUGGIN (SHAMARDAL x PIVOTAL x MONSUN) – He won his first start of 2019 at 6 furlongs on the turf and came back to try Allowance NW2L’s this week. He just never really got going today as he regressed from an 85 speed fig to an 80 in a 6th place finish. I’m thinking of trying to stretch him out a bit to see if that gives him a better shot.

WILD CAT TALE (WILDCAT RED x DEHERE x FIRST SAMURAI) – She caught an off track this week and made it clear she did not care for it. She jogged 5 furlongs on a good dirt track that saw her finish 9th by 6.5 lengths earning one of her lowest speed figs (68). She didn’t come out of the race tired so I’ll wheel her back in two weeks to try another sprint.

SILENT MOTIVE (CREATIVE CAUSE x SUNDAY SILENCE x ECLIPTICAL) – He tried winners for the first time this week and seemingly ran his race. He sat off the pace but didn’t have enough track to make a good close. He finished 9th by 4 lengths against allowance NW2L’s and will more then likely get a stretch in distance.

2-Year Old Report:

BOOGIE (WILDCAT RED x SPEIGHTSTOWN x KINGMAMBO) – Bred to the stakes placed he-mare NOT A BAD THING, her first run was encouraging.  She scored a 55 speed fig going 5 furlongs on the dirt but did start to pass horses at the 2nd call. I’m thinking she’s just going to want some distance to catch some of that early speed.

HORNS OF THE BULL (GREEN GRATTO x TALE OF THE CAT x HOLY BULL) – Scratch bred who I figured would enjoy sprints based on the breeding. She didn’t reward my line of thinking this week as her first career start returned a 12th place 7 length loss in which she produced a 45 speed fig. She’ll get 8 weeks off and since her sire is based out of NY, she’ll more then likely get a chance at running against local breds in her next.

TWISTED STEEL (SOCIAL INCLUSION x SMARTY JONES x NOT FOR LOVE) – Bred out of the mare SMART KILLER, I sent this son of SOCIAL INCLUSION to Delaware for a local dirt 4.5 furlong sprint. He ran well through the first two calls before fading and finishing 3rd.

Next Week’s Watchlist:

TURN N BERN (BERNARDINI x DANZIG x KRIS S.) – Is stretching out to try 9 furlongs on the turf. He showed some promise in his last as he closed a little bit but wasn’t able to get up into the money. We will see if the added distance helps.

DEFINITIONOF CRAZY (PIONEEROF THE NILE x DANZIG x FORTY NINER) – The stretch to 8.5 furlongs looked to be right up his alley as he turned in an 85 speed fig in a 3rd place effort in his last. He’ll go under those same conditions this week to see how much he improves.

MUM’S MOON (MALIBU MOON x DANZIG x MR. PROSPECTOR) – Still trying to get that maiden thing figured out as she hasn’t found the winner’s circle sprinting. This will be her 4th run of her career and first time trying a mile on the dirt.

LEMONNY JONES (BIG BROWN x SMARTY JONES x LEMON DROP KID) – She’s trying stakes company for the first time in the ESR Power to the People. I really don’t know what to expect from her in this race as with most ESR races she’ll be running against the cream of the crop.
