I was last in France you know and I decided to take the long way home. So I made my way to Paris and hopped aboard a flight to Melbourne/Victoria airport. I have been on some nice airliners before but this was the icing on the cake. Luxury accommodations for the flight with champagne, dinner, a wonderful private lay out in First Class and the service by the airline attendants was spectacular and met every need. I guess I will have to see if BTB will compt me for this $10,000 airline ticket. LOL I actually did not wish to disembark but I had a job to do as being sent on assignment by the BTB to cover the G1, The QLD Snow Sprint in Victoria. The race is a 7 furlong tour on the turf for the older mares and fillies. They have come out for this meet and we have some of the top horses that are 4 years old and up that have thrown their names into the hat for this one. We have a one million dollar winner taking the track in Kalaharia Ferrrari who is an accomplished 5 year old that will go out to show she still has what it takes to add to her trophy case. She won The QLD Snowy Sprint last year and looks to repeat. There are many other high caliber horses in this field that will be stepping up to try and spoil her fun and get to the wire first and prove the lady wrong in her attempt to foil them. I see many familiar stables coming to the track with double entries by desertdog and haack master stables today. Many residencies are going to be represented as these horses take to the track to contend. I have taken my walk around the track to view the condition and I have to say the track looks good and will be Firm Turf come post time. I then took my normal stroll around the barns and tried to speak with some of the owners and jockeys. They feel their horses are fresh and ready for this running of in The QLD Snowy Sprint. So let us take a little preview as to how this field of fourteen nice mares stack up here in Australia for the running of The QLD Snowy Sprint as they take to this 7 furlong turf outing.
Horse/Odds Owner Jockey
1. Venezuela Mia 7/1 magallanes T Loesch
This multiple Listed Stakes winner is a scratch bred (DISTORTED HUMOR x SEATTLE SLEW x NIJINSKY 2ND) that has shown up to catch the wire first in her last two outings. She last ran in Texas on 06/09/2019 in the Barbs Spooky Stakes at a distance of 7.5 furlongs with respectable 114 sp rating. Her race prior to that was in Maryland on 04/07/2019 going 7 furlongs in the Queen Of Rain Stakes where again she put away the field to get up for another Listed Stakes win. She will have jockey, T Loesch from South Africa up to take the ride with her from out of a favorable gate for her running style. She will take to the turf on Saturday representing the Hispano Parlante residency.
2. Serena Morena 8/1 xledwith6 D Ledwith
This Ghostzapper filly had a nice run on 05/10/2019 when she went gate to wire in the Crash Bang Angel Stakes in Deauville, France with a 110 sp rating at a distance of 7 furlongs. Her owner puts in the call to jockey, D Ledwith from South Africa to make the trip here to Victoria to take the mount on his Stakes winning mare that has only missed the boards once in her last 8 starts. They too will get the support of the Hispano Parlante residency when they head to their favorable gate selection.
3. Give Us A Chance 8/1 jbcril09 Z Kentucky
The owner and trainer of this scratch bred mare (DANSILI (GB) x MR. PROSPECTOR x NORTHERN DANCER) has picked up the phone to place a call to Ireland to get jockey, Z Kentucky to come in to take the trip with his mare in this 7 furlong event. Her last win came back on 02/23/2019 in the Kepler Twin Stakes at a distance of 7.5 furlongs. Her last outing was in the G1, Weedy Establishment Stakes of which she ran flat and failed to fire at a distance of 8 furlongs. She showed up a disappointing 8th in that race. She has been in the money in twenty of her twenty-three career starts and seeks to find herself in that spot again. She likes to close late and with a lot of speed up front she might get there with a fast pace. She will be representing the Elite Racing Club here in Victoria.
4. Harlem’s Voice 6/1 conqustor D Evans
Jockey, D Evans who is a local jockey and crowd pleaser here in Victoria will get the call to take to the irons up top of this Dark Angel mare. She has had some good outings recently and is just coming off a 2nd place finish when she ran on 05/05/2019 in the G3, The Charted Well Stakes in Newmarket. She likes to hang back just off the lead in her best outings and should be up there trying to stalk the rabbits in this race. She has had mixed results with her familiar jockey who will take the ride with her as she goes out to represent the Midas residency come post time.
5. Mariann Pour Moi 15/1 laxe P Harzheim
Sired by Pour Moi, this mare won a Listed Stakes on 03/03/2019 in the Southern Atlantic Stakes in Queensland at distance of 7.5 furlongs and put up her top sp rating of 109 that day. Since then she has struggled to get back on the boards in her last two races. Jockey, P Harzheim from Berkshire gets the call to ride up top of this 15/1 choice in the field. They will take to the turf together in representation of the Universal Racing Club residency.
6. Trash Panda 9/1 desertdog J Jubel
This Grey Filly is a scratch bred (SIYOUNI x EL PRADO x RUBIANO) and she picked up a G2 win in her last outing on 06/09/2019 in The Winter Sprint Stakes at a distance of 7 furlongs here in Victoria. She went gate to wire in that race and threw down a nice 113 sp rating. For this race her owner puts in the call to Italy to contract with jockey, J Jubel to take the trip with his filly around the turf. This filly is looking very smart when I saw her in the stables and could be a horse in this race to watch out for if she can hang with the other speed horses in this race. They will be cheered on by the All-Star Racing residency when she takes to the turf here in Victoria.
7. Irish Vendetta 13/1 desertdog0 S L Ledwith
The second half of the desertdog entries is sired by Siyouni. She is a GP Badge earner, but you would have to go back to April of 2018 to find it. Since then she has picked up a couple of Listed Stakes wins, but has failed to find her way back to the boards against Graded company. She last ran on 05/05/2019 in the G3, The Charted Well Stakes in Newmarket where she showed up 6th in that race but only 1 ¼ lengths off the lead. The owner puts in the call to the UAE to find jockey, S L Ledwith ready to fly in to take the mount. They too will be representing the All-Star Racing residency at post time.
8. Why Can’t I Sleep 9/1 marineboy2 C Wyatt
This Bay filly sired by Daiwa Major is a G2 badge earner who on 03/17/2019 found the wire first in the G2, The Coolmore Stakes here in Victoria when she put down a nice 115 sp rating that day. Her last two outings have not been as fruitful. She last ran in New Jersey on 06/09/2019 in the G3, The Eastwood Stakes at a distance of 8.5 furlongs where she showed up at the wire 4th and over 4 lengths back. She will make the long trip back here to Victoria for this race and she will get jockey, C Wyatt to meet her at the track and settle her in for this race. If she can find that speed again she had in her last race she ran here in Victoria she could be one to watch out for in the rearview mirror. She will be representing the All-Stars Racing residency when she heads to gate.
9. The King’s Joy 23/1 horizons3 GD Mate
This Roan filly by Kitten’s Joy will take to the track to represent the DelPenn National residency here in Victoria when she takes to the turf on Saturday. She is a multiple Listed Stakes winner but has had difficulty trying to step up to run at the Graded level. Her last outing came on 05/05/2019 in Newmarket at a distance of 7 furlongs in the G3, The Charted Well Stakes. She finished up 4th in that race, but was only ½ length off the lead. This was a very tight and hotly contested race between the top four finishers and exciting to watch on replay. She likes to close very late in her most recent outings. With a lot of speed in this race she could put up a fight with jockey, GD Mate up top from out of New Zealand.
10. Kalahari Ferrari 7/1 brettlee K Ledwith
The owner of this Frankel horse will bring his Bay mare back to try for a repeat win here in The QLD Snowy Sprint, which she handily won last year. Time has been a little lean for this million dollar mare as of late, but on 04/27/2019 she did run in a Listed Stakes in Denmark at 7.5 furlongs and showed up 2nd in the Undo The Charge Stakes. She is a very accomplished turf runner and will be looking to get back on track to her winning ways as she looks to repeat here in Victoria. Her owner puts in the call to jockey, K Ledwith from Japan to come take the ride with his big mare when they take to this 7 furlong race. They will be heading out at post time to represent the All-Star Racing residency. She likes to linger just off the front in her best outings.
11. Turf Factor 9/1 haack12 J Harzheim
This is the second of two entries by the haack master stables that will also be representing the Hispano Parlante residency. This Bay mare was sired by Muhaarar. She is a GP badge earner, but you would have to go back to March of 2018 to find it. She has picked up a Listed Stakes and most recently an Allowance win, but otherwise has had some struggles. Her last outing came on 05/18/2019 in Japan when she ran in a $43,800 Allowance of which she hit the wire first getting up by ¼ length after closing nicely. She will get a familiar jockey in J Harzheim to take to the irons and try to get this mare into contention. He may need to give her a few cracks of the whip and pull out some extra coming for home.
12. Bring The Sea 58/1 lightng107 P Bangs
This Bay filly sired by Le Havre will find no love from the morning line odds makers, as they make her the longest choice in the field. Although a G3 winner, overall she has had difficulties and a fairly lack luster career hitting the boards only seven times in twenty-one starts. I think she will be meeting up with a crowd on Saturday that will refuse to be kind to her in this race. Her owner makes the call to jockey, P Bangs from New South Wales to take the ride with his mare across the turf. They will be representing the Empire State Racing (ESR) residency when they head to the gates.
13. Sleepswhenitrains 7/1 teamasr2 B Doherty
This Bay filly is a scratch bred (GHOSTZAPPER x DANEHILL x HIS MAJESTY) and she is a G2 winner from The Lake Georgina Stakes in July of last year. She has not picked up a graded win since that time, but she likes being close in most outings. Her last race was a Listed Stakes when she tried the dirt surface in India in the Angels Vixen Memorial. She showed up 4 in that race losing a little ground down the stretch. Prior to that race she ran 7 furlongs on 04/28/2019 in Ireland in the G3, The Atari Stakes where she had the lead but was caught late and finished up 2nd by 1 length. She gets jockey, B Doherty coming in from India to take the ride with her. He will be trying to get an extra gear out of his horse when they take to the track to represent the All-Stars Racing residency.
14. Fleur Du Mal 15/1 spqr6th R Whisper
This Warfront filly won the G2, The Turf Queen here in Victoria back on 04/06/2019 when she went 7.5 furlongs to get up for a nice win by 1 ½ lengths. However her last two outings came at the G1 level which she found not to be as fruitful and missed the boards in both attempts. She last ran in New York so she will be making that grueling travel to get back her to Victoria. She looks to get back to her winning ways with jockey, R Whisper coming in from Surrey to take to the irons. If her jockey can pull out some of those sp numbers from her from days past she could contend as one of the longer choices in the field. They will be representing Universal Racing Club when they head for the gates.
Good luck to all horses and all owners of this race. Most importantly have fun!!!
Never mind my picks as it is all in fun and I rarely pick winners. Hope you do better than I do for this race.
1. Trash Panda: Coming off a nice G2 outing I look for this horse to contend.
2. Venezuela Mia: Big jump in Class since her last race, but I like the speed.
3. Kalahari Ferrari: Got to give last year’s winner a chance to repeat.
Tarton’s Long Shot
Fleur Du Mal will get on some of my exotic tickets at the betting windows. I do not like the outside post position, but at 15/1 I will give her a shot.
