After pressing the early pace set by DISGUISED REGRET, TIZ SMOKIN' NOW under European wonder jockey P. Harzheim whistled to the lead after a half mile and the race was all over but the celebrating. After TIZ SMOKIN' NOW made the lead he quickly opened up 2, 3, 4 lengths on the field and then he was just on cruise control in the stretch to the wire and was being pulled up at the finish. His trainer Chris was waving the “we're number one finger” as he made his way thru the crowd to the winner circle and even got a crushing hug from the Governator himself after the trophy presentation. Asked if was too early to talk about the first Saturday in May the joyful trainer said “ that it was too early to be thinking about the derby, but.. we will be there for sure!
Closing from far back to be second was the only non- stakes winner in the field Reacher Stables homebred DISTORTED DRAGON. His trainer was also ecstatic about the results saying he'd take 2nd in a Grade 1 all day long.
Third money went to mano's MISTY WHISPER who stalked the early leaders then made a run at the winner nearing the stretch and then held on gamely to the wire. OSOTOGARI rally mildly from far back for 4th and CORINTHIAN WAR who's trainer promised me he'd be no better than last, also closed from far back to get the last paycheck.
